Which microwave should you choose for your fitted kitchen?

Which microwave should you choose for your fitted kitchen?

Microwaves are a key element in any kitchen project. These ultra-practical household appliances have made themselves indispensable. They certainly save the day when we don’t have time to cook. They are a quick and reliable ally for reheating, defrosting or even browning. ixina will therefore help you choose the microwave made for you and your fitted kitchen.

Criteria to consider when choosing your microwave oven

Tray size and oven capacity

Microwave trays generally vary in size from 27 cm (standard size for plates) to 40 cm (for dishes).

If you're more of a large family, opt for a large tray and a capacity of over 25 litres. Couples and freelancers will be happy with a capacity of between 20 and 25 litres.

The clutch release mode is also an option to consider if you prefer square or rectangular containers. It prevents the tray from rotating so that the dish or plate doesn't bang against the sides.

The various standard functions to consider

The classic function: the main function of the classic microwave oven is to reheat, defrost or cook your dishes quickly.

The grill function: a microwave oven with a grill will brown or crisp your delicious gratins even faster than a traditional oven. Some models come with a browning dish for browning food, an option sometimes called the "frying function". Everything to delight lovers of crispy pizzas and tarts. No more soft dough that turns rubbery as it cools!

Rotating heat: the rotating heat microwave oven uses pulsed heat, which combines the heat of the heating elements with fans. So your dishes cook in the same way as in a conventional oven, but in record time!

Other functions are also available for keen foodies

Multifunction: a combined microwave can occasionally replace a traditional oven, offering grilling, convection cooking and crisping. Cooking meat, gratins and pies has never been quicker!

Steam cooking: a steam microwave allows you to cook vegetables and fish without adding any oil. Cooking perfect fondant potatoes, for example, takes just 10 minutes! Not to be confused with the boil and simmer functions of some models, which do not actually use steam cooking.

Programming

Electronic programming will allow you to reheat dishes based on your saved programmes, as well as to calculate, as if by magic, the power and cooking time required for your dish according to its type and weight.

Where should the microwave be placed in a fitted kitchen?

The built-in microwave fits in seamlessly with the rest of your equipment. But you need to check the height and depth of your chosen site. If your kitchen’s layout does allow for a dedicated space, opt for a standalone model. As the microwave does not give off any heat, it can be placed anywhere, even in a cupboard to be discreet.
